It strikes a perfect balance between the historic and the modern, where Mediaeval-era buildings stand side-by-side with state-of-the-art architecture. It’s a city steeped in tradition, yet it’s always full of surprises.

In Stockholm, stunning natural green environments are interwoven with modern urban design. In other words, as a wedding photographer, Stockholm is a dream come true!

If you’re thinking of getting married in this beautiful city, you have so many amazing locations to choose from! Here are some of the best wedding photo locations in Stockholm.

1. Stadshuset (Stockholm’s City Hall)

Stockholm’s City Hall, known to locals as Stadshuset, is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. The stunning architecture and surrounding beauty of Stadshuset make it a perfect location both for getting married or taking timeless Stockholm wedding photos.

The ceremony area is open only for the wedding couple and a handful of guests, so it does require a bit of planning if you’re hoping to take photos there — but it’s definitely worth it! The cityhalls outdoor space is open 24/7 and has a beautiful courtyard, park, and views.

With both indoor and outdoor options, there are tons of amazing spots for photos, which makes it one of the best wedding photography spots in Stockholm. And with me as your photographer, we always take photos both inside and outside!

Stadshuset is also one of the most scenic places in Stockholm. Climb to the top of its tower (accessible at limited times during the year) and you’ll find a breathtaking 360-degree view of the city which serves as a perfect backdrop for some awesome Stockholm wedding photography.

2. Hit the Streets of Södermalm

Visiting the district of Södermalm, located at the southern end of the Stockholm City Centre, can often feel like taking a trip back in time. Some of the houses lining the streets date all the way back to the 17th century, offering a glimpse at Sweden’s incredible history and amazing architecture.

The authentic, historic architecture combined with the beautiful natural surroundings makes Södermalm one of the best photo spots in Stockholm.

For a more panoramic view of Stockholm, visitors to Södermalm can also check out Fjällgatan and Monteliusvägen, which both offer amazing views of the river and allow you to take in a panorama of the skyline from different angles.

Fjällgatan is a walking path that offers a particularly great view of the Old Town, Skeppsholmen, and Djurgården. Monteliusvägen runs through Ivar Lo’s park — one of the best public parks in all of Stockholm with a great view of Riddarfjärden, Kungsholmen, and Stockholm City Hall.

3. Skinnarviksberget

The hill of Skinnarviksberget is the highest natural point in Stockholm, and anyone willing to make the trip to the top will find themselves in one of the most beautiful locations in the city. In addition to its breathtaking views of the city, Skinnarviksberget is a popular spot for picnics and other outdoor celebrations.

Enjoying a picnic while admiring the views and then posing at golden hour with the Stockholm skyline behind you is enchanting and romantic in equal measure, and makes Skinnarviksberget one of the absolute best places for wedding photos in Stockholm.

4. Gamla Stan (The Old Town)

Gamla stan is another Stockholm location that lets visitors travel into the past. This is Stockholm’s “Old Town,” and by old, I’m talking really old. The town was founded in the 13th century, and many of the cobblestone streets and alleyways date back to Mediaeval times.

All this history makes Gamla Stan one of the absolutely essential wedding photoshoot locations in Stockholm. How many people can say they posed for wedding photos at the site of the infamous Stockholm Bloodbath of 1520? It might not be the most conventionally romantic historical event, but it’s undeniably hardcore, and you definitely don’t want to pass up the opportunity.

The stunning Mediaeval architecture and historical significance of Gamla stan make it a popular tourist destination, and it can get quite crowded during peak travel seasons, but in my opinion, it’s absolutely worth visiting so that you can pose for some of the coolest wedding photos of all time.

5. Gröna Lund (via Slussen)

After your visit to Gamla stan, I recommend walking over to the transport hub of Slussen and take a boat ride to Gröna Lund, Sweden’s oldest amusement park. The park offers amazing panoramic views over Gamla stan and Södermalm, which makes it one of the premier Stockholm photo spots.

Posing for photos at Gröna Lund as the sun sets is pretty much a guaranteed recipe for perfect wedding photos. Bring your intrepid Stockholm wedding photographer (hello! That’s me!) and have them take some couples shots while you pose at the golden hour with the Stockholm skyline behind you for some truly stunning wedding photography that’s unlike anything else.

6. Brunkebergs Tunnel

The Brunkebergs Tunnel is one of the great hidden gems in Stockholm. It’s a 200-metre-long circular tunnel located right in the city centre, filled with really cool lighting. It’s such a unique space that’s perfect for unique, jaw-dropping wedding portraits or couples photos.

7. Stockholm Public Library

If you’re really looking for some off-the-beaten-path Stockholm wedding photos, one of the best places you can go is the Stockholm Public Library

The library’s towering rotunda is one of the most iconic structures in the city, and the interior is an awesome room lined with thousands of books. Both the inside and outside of the library are awesome places to take photos in Stockholm.

8. The Skansen Open Air Museum

If you’re looking for wedding photos that offer a truly immersive trip into the Sweden of the past, you should definitely plan to visit Skansen, the oldest open-air museum in Sweden. Skansen has been around since the 19th century and its commitment to historical authenticity is second to none.

Want to pose for some couples photos in a full-scale replica of a 19th-century Swedish town, complete with actors wearing traditional 19th-century Swedish clothing? You can do that at Skansen. Want a moose in your wedding photos? Head on over to Skansen’s Zoo and they’ll take care of that for you.

Skansen is a beautiful spot that’s truly one-of-a-kind, and I always recommend that couples check it out when we’re taking wedding photos because it’s hands-down one of the greatest Stockholm photography spots.

Skansen even performs weddings if you’d like to exchange your vows here! During the summer months, Skansen allows for drop-in weddings. Just bring your ID and necessary documents to the venue, and you can be married on the spot, surrounded by all the beauty of the Skansen grounds. They also have a church and some beautiful outdoor venues that you can book! Just be aware that there might also be some tourists around.

9. Rosendals Trädgård in Djurgården

If you have a soft spot for greenery and lush gardens, the Rosendals Trädgård in Djurgården is a perfect spot for Stockholm wedding photos.

Rosendals Trädgård is a market garden that’s practically exploding with natural beauty — from the rose garden to the orchard to the gorgeous flower beds.

Anyone who loves nature should definitely spend some time posing for photos here. You can even get married in their greenhouse, which is available for wedding ceremonies year-round.

10. Millesgården in Lidingö

Want more art? In Stockholm, you’ll never run out of art! Located just 20 minutes from downtown Stockholm, Millesgården in Lidingö is an art museum that seems like it was designed for wedding photos.

Inside the museum, you’ll find an awesome art gallery and a super cool collection of antiques, while the outside grounds feature a huge sculpture garden that’s a perfect spot for posing for wedding photos.

Both inside and outside are great spots for the artistically inclined to snap some couples photos! Either way, you’re guaranteed to wind up with pictures that are completely one-of-a-kind.

11. Explore The Stockholm Subway Stations

In Stockholm, beauty is everywhere, even underground! Many of the city’s subway stations are so beautiful that they rank among the best places to take photos in Stockholm.

So many artists have been commissioned to create works to display at stations throughout the city that the Stockholm subway system is sometimes called the “world’s longest art exhibition.”

Two highlights of the Stockholm subway system are Kungsträdgården (the King’s Garden) and Rådhuset. Kungsträdgården is not only a subway station but also the oldest public park in the city.

In the spring, the cherry trees are in full bloom, and just a short walk away you’ll find both a castle and the Royal Swedish Opera. It’s a truly beautiful space, and you absolutely should not leave Stockholm without posing for plenty of photos here.

The Rådhuset is nearly as stunning. It’s built into exposed bedrock, which creates the feeling that you’ve walked right off the subway into a majestic cave. It’s also right below a historic courthouse, and just a short walk from city hall. You really could spend all day exploring this place and posing for photos.

12. The Archipelago

A final can’t-miss location for Stockholm wedding photography is the archipelago consisting of the islands of Sandhamn, Vaxholm, and Dalarö

In the summer months, these islands become one of the most popular destinations in the city, and they’re surrounded by natural beauty and amazing things to see and do. It’s definitely one of the best places for couples photos and wedding photography in Stockholm.

If you’re visiting the archipelago, one wedding venue I’d definitely recommend is Dalarö Skans. The luxurious, secluded building dates back to the 17th century, and it’s located right on the water, where there’s always amazing light. It’s absolutely worth checking out, especially if you want some truly top-tier wedding photos.
